Competence without permission: an operator’s book that is not a Bitcoin book
I do not read biblical fiction. I read this as a case study in doing the work a principal will not put his name on.

This is not in my lane. No threat model, no commands, no self-custody. I opened it because the subtitle promised a life of Joab and the jacket copy said competence without permission. That is the sentence I have been trying to write about people who keep systems up while the founder does keynotes.
Joab wins David’s wars, settles rivals the kingdom cannot absorb, and dies on Solomon’s order with his hands on the altar. The king needed blood as policy and would not say the words. If you have ever been the person who revokes access, kills a project, or tells the room the number is real, you already know this man.
What I kept
The novel is honest about the end state: the peace he made possible spends him. Backing the wrong heir is not a plot hole. It is what happens when the operator’s map is the old reign. I do not need this to be a parable about Bitcoin. I will not pretend it is Practical Bitcoin in a costume.
If you only buy how-to, skip it. If you want one fiction that understands why the indispensable person is not forgiven, this is that book. I bought it. I will not KU-borrow a series of thirteen unless book two is as cold as this.
Failure mode, named
The failure mode in The King’s Sword is not a missed command. It is an operator whose map is the old reign. Joab backs the wrong heir because that is the graph he has been maintaining. Solomon’s court is a breaking change. Asylum at the altar is a rule that does not ship in the new version.
I am not going to pretend this belongs on a Bitcoin bibliography. I am going to keep it next to the books about people who hold production. If you only want Electrum and Sparrow, those notes are other pages. This one is Joab.
